The bottom fell out from one of crypto’s fastest growing blockchains, LUNA, which promised to succeed where bitcoin failed. Its predictable collapse reverberated across the entire crypto market and is forcing investors to pick up the pieces. C rypto’s history has been defined by five resets. The first came in 2014 when what was basically the only bitcoin exchange in the world, Mt. Gox, imploded following a nearly half-billion-dollar hack. The second, in 2016, was The DAO hack, when an attacker tricked a smart contract into giving away $60 million worth of ethereum, worth $8 billion today. The third, in January 2018, occurred when the ICO bubble popped, starting a year-long decline wiping out 60% of the crypto market or more than $700 million mostly in the form of worthless junk tokens. The fourth took place in March 2020 when crypto lost 40% of its value along with most other global financial markets. Each reset not only led to price-market capitalization increases, they … [Read more...] about Crypto’s Great Reset: How Digital Asset Investors Will Recover From The Market’s $1 Trillion Meltdown

What’s Missing in the Agile Approach
I've been in the business of coaching companies for a few decades, but only recently did I get into the business of research. Management ideas are nice ideas, but they're just that. If you want to prove what actually drives financial results--and if you care about improving the lives of the employees who drive those results--you need applied research. My friends at Harvard Business School have been telling me this for a while, so I talked them into helping me test the validity of a management approach we call economic engagement. It's all about partnering with employees to profitably serve customers. We defined precisely what we meant by economic engagement, codifying it in five management practices. Three years into the research, we shared the initial compelling results in these pages (more details are provided in the book I wrote with John Case-- Partners on the Payroll ). While I'm a die-hard fan of this approach (and growing more fanatical as the research continues … [Read more...] about What’s Missing in the Agile Approach
MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Wager Has Turned Into A Losing Bet
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin MicroStrategy MSTR embarked on a strategy of using its cash and then debt to buy alternative assets when it announced its June 2020 quarter results on July 28, 2020 . Over almost two years since then it has bought 129,218 Bitcoins as of May 2, 2022, per its March 2022 10-Q filing . The company has spent just under $4 billion for an average cost of $30,700. Unfortunately, since last Thursday, May 12, Bitcoin has been trading a bit over to around $2,000 under MicroStrategy’s breakeven price of $30,700 and it has gotten as low as $26,350. The recent downturn in Bitcoin’s price (over $10,000 or 26% in the past month), driven by the increase in interest rates and a risk off environment becoming more prevalent, has also hit the company’s share price (fallen over $250 or 56% in the past month). A roller coaster ride One point to keep in mind is that even while MicroStrategy’s stock fell over 25% last Wednesday to … [Read more...] about MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Wager Has Turned Into A Losing Bet

(Photo by Suhaimi Yusuf/The Edge) - A + A MALAYSIA Aviation Group Bhd (MAG), which narrowed its full-year net loss for 2021 by 60% over the preceding year, remains on track to achieve break-even in 2023 as part of its Long Term Business Plan 2021-2025 (LTBP 2.0). How To Buy Bitcoin At 26% Off The Regular Price
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Here’s a scorecard on eight ways to own crypto. The most intriguing: a low-cost coin trust available at a nice discount. Are you interested in virtual currency, now trading at half the price it had last fall? Shop around. Among the many ways to get a piece of the action, there are wide differences in ownership costs. My favorite: a somewhat obscure bitcoin trust to be found in Fairfield, Connecticut. There are pros and cons to every means of getting cryptocurrency exposure, including the little outfit in Fairfield. This survey covers eight bitcoin bets in descending order of my views on their desirability. You may have a different ranking, especially if you are speculating on a quick turnaround. #1. Osprey Bitcoin Trust This quasi-fund (ticker: OBTC), created a little over a year ago, is a knockoff of the much better-known Grayscale Bitcoin Trust. Both trusts are closed-end, in that investors have no right … [Read more...] about How To Buy Bitcoin At 26% Off The Regular Price
Tesla (TSLA) Recalls 130,000 U.S. Vehicles Over Touch Screen Issues
Tesla, Inc. ( TSLA ) is recalling 129,960 vehicles in the U.S. due to a fault in their infotainment systems. The cars that are being recalled include Models 3 and Model Y vehicles that were launched in 2022 as well as Models S and Model X vehicles that were produced in 2021 and 2022. Tesla's infotainment device is used for music, navigation, air conditioning and heating, and controlling the back-up camera and the speed of the windshield wiper. The electronic systems in the recalled vehicles are prone to overheating when the car is charging, causing the touch screen to lag behind or go blank. The problem may be due to a computer chip that is not cooling enough resulting in a blank touch screen or a lag in the infotainment navigation. Key Takeaways Tesla is recalling 300,000 US vehicles due to a faulty infotainment system that causes the touch screen to overheat and lag or go blank. InCharge COO Terry O’Day: Fleet Charging EVs Is About To Get Real
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I ran into an old acquaintance at the 2022 ACT Expo in Long Beach last week. Terry O’Day has been involved with electric vehicles for over 25 years, and our paths have crossed, indirectly or maybe directly, here and there, over the years. O’Day is currently the Chief Operating Officer of InCharge Energy , and we talked about how InCharge fits into the fleet charging environment in 2022, how thinking through total cost of ownership convinces fleet managers and how cheap solar panels can show us a way to get more EVs to more people . But first, a bit of history . Terry O’Day : I’ve been in the EV charging business since 1996, it was my first job in my career and this is my fifth EV startup. My wife worked on the EV1 marketing and we were in the movie [2006’s Who Killed The Electric Car? ]. Sebastian Blanco : [ Disclaimer: I briefly appear in the sequel, Revenge of the Electric Car , released … [Read more...] about InCharge COO Terry O’Day: Fleet Charging EVs Is About To Get Real
The New War Between VCs and Entrepreneurs
Two of the most interesting post-pandemic issues for the entrepreneurs running venture-backed businesses -- which have basically been on an involuntary hold for the last year or two -- are pace and story, and the conflicting attitudes toward each in the board room. Both are already topics of painful and somewhat heated discussions in meetings everywhere, pitting the impatient VCs against management teams. The VCs are all about IRR. Every investment they make is "on the clock" and their investors are always watching, waiting and wondering about how quickly and how much a given fund will return. They're all in for pushing the pace of everything forward as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the far more conservative and cautious management teams are still somewhat traumatized and only now starting to recover from the shock of seeing their businesses abruptly shut down. These managers are also realizing that their years of pain, sacrifice and stress were almost lost forever. In a … [Read more...] about The New War Between VCs and Entrepreneurs
