Cannes, the playground of the rich and famous on the French Riviera, is not just known for its annual film festival. Each year it also rolls out the red carpet for visitors to MIPIM [Marché International des Professionnels d'Immobilier] - the international investment and real estate fair billed as “the world’s leading property market”. Some 26,000 real estate developers and urban planners from more than 100 countries gathered there for this year’s event, which marked MIPIM’s 30th anniversary. The four-day gathering has become a place for cities and civic leaders to woo investment and partners. This year there were 108 real estate projects from 30 countries on display. Local businesses seek to boost exports to ASEAN, China ASEAN and China are big markets that are yet fully tapped by Vietnamese exporters, heard a forum on the two markets held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 14. Pham Thiet Hoa, Director of the Online Trade and Investment Information Portal (ITPC) said the completion of the roadmap to cut tariffs in ASEAN offers opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to increase exports to the bloc, which is the fourth biggest export market of Vietnam, after the EU, the US and China. With the combined population of 660 million people, ASEAN is expected to become the fourth largest economy in the word by 2030. Dubai has the world’s second largest mall, a gargantuan complex with 1,200 stores, an aquarium, a virtual reality theme park, an Olympic ice skating rink, and hundreds of restaurants. The mall has seen over 80 million annual visitors over the last four years, making it the most visited mall in the world. After spending a day wandering through the mall’s many amenities, I understand why it is a necessary and appealing place for Dubai’s residents, but I still cannot understand why any tourist would visit. Dubai doesn’t do anything small. The desert city has the world’s tallest building, palm tree-shaped artificial islands that fan out along the coast, the world’s largest indoor theme park, and, soon, the world’s first rotating skyscraper. Life expectancy in 2040 is set to rise at least a little in all nations but the rankings will change dramatically, with Spain taking the top spot while China and the United States trade places, researchers said Wednesday.
