Why Are Stocks And Bonds Both Down?

This would require a strong negative correlation between stocks and bonds. Evidence suggests: The stock/bond correlation is small and may even be slightly positive. Bond returns can be negative even when stock returns are negative. Rising interest rates reduce bond prices and affect bond returns negatively. Rising interest rates can also affect stock returns negatively. However, other factors also affect stock returns. Hence the minimal correlation. Even though stocks and bonds can decline at the same time, the limited stock/bond correlation means that holding bonds can still offer substantial diversification to your portfolio. Soft landing hopes for US economy brighten outlook on stocks

The benchmark S&P 500 has rebounded about 15% since mid-June, halving its year-to-date loss, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite is up 20% over that time. Many of the so-called meme stocks that had been pummeled in the first half of the year have come screaming back, while the Cboe Volatility Index, known as Wall Street’s fear gauge, stands near a four-month low. Key Facts The at-home fitness company will raise the price of the Bike+, its higher-end stationary bike, by 25% to $2,495 and its treadmill by 30% to $3,495, according to the memo seen by Forbes and other outlets. McCarthy wrote the company plans to pursue a “significant and aggressive reduction of Peloton’s retail footprint,” though he doesn’t expect to close any storefronts by the end of the year. Jhunjhunwala died at the age of 62, a week after the launch of his budget airline, Akasa Air. He had looked and sounded frail promoting the carrier. The cause of his death was not immediately known.
