Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This week Jen Psaki will mark her first anniversary as President Joe Biden’s press secretary and role as the daily public face of his administration. She has also set an example for business leaders on how to communicate with the public and the media during a crisis and other challenging situations. As I wrote last January after Psaki’s first few days on the job, her initial White House briefings had “already provided important lessons about communicating in a crisis. Her televised meetings with reporters immediately became a continuing education class for business leaders on how to communicate clearly and effectively with the media and the public during a crisis—or any other time.” In an informal survey of communication experts, media professionals and other observers, she received generally high marks for what she has done over the past 12 months and how she did it. A Return To Normal Mike McCurry is a former … [Read more...] about Why Jen Psaki Earns High Marks In First Year As Biden’s Press Secretary
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin My trademark as a tax blogger is "stuff I find interesting". Not surprisingly a bit of that stuff is not that interesting to a very large number of people. Much as I appreciate the discerning elite of my readers, I sometimes like to reflect on what seems to be of the most interest. Here is what my readership found most interesting in 2021. Stimulus Checks Excitement over stimulus checks infected the blogosphere and seemed to be a surefire way to get traffic. I was tempted to do a post about how my barber who knows a congressman thinks the next stimulus check will be a prime number. I followed my principles nonetheless and only wrote about them when I thought I had something worthwhile and was rewarded with reader interest. In Stimulus Checks And Filing Your 2020 Tax Return-Hurry Up Or Wait? , I scoped out the unique situation we found ourselves in where you could affect your overall outcome by whether you filed your … [Read more...] about Stimulus Checks, Unpassed Tax Provisions And Other Fun In 2021
File image of HDFC Bank HDFC Bank Ltd, India’s most valuable private sector lender is on its way back to delivering above-average balance sheet growth with pristine asset quality it is known for. That does not mean the lender would reach its destination without breaking a sweat. HDFC Bank’s Q3FY22 was a mixed bag with core operating performance yet to reach its past prime. Net interest income growth remained around 14 percent, a decelerated expansion level post the pandemic. Operating expenses were up 14 percent sequentially which analysts believe has scope to reduce in the coming quarters. To be sure, the bank should be cut some slack here as the expenses were towards beefing up digital capabilities to capture growth. Given the expenses and more muted earnings, operating profit growth of 10.5 percent didn’t exactly elicit excitement. That said, the bank reported a healthy 18% net profit growth on a reduced provisioning level. The upshot is that the bottomline growth remained … [Read more...] about HDFC Bank gets growth back in Q3 but fees need a fix

Around 1 million members of the National Savings Fund (NSF) have stopped making contributions to the fund due to their declining income caused by the adverse impact of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, said the fund's secretary-general Jaruluk Ruangsuwan. The fund has around 2 million members. They are workers aged 15 and above and are not members of the social security fund, the government pension fund or the provident fund, Ms Jaruluk added. Around half of the NSF members stopped making contributions to the fund since last year. Despite this stoppage of contributions, the fund still gained 60,000 new members last year. Ms Jaruluk said the pandemic had adversely hit low-income individuals. The fund currently has a total of 10 billion baht. Last year it invested most of this on highly stable assets, with 7% invested in stocks. The NSF is considering amending the related law to extend the maximum age of the members to 65 from the current 60. Currently 17 million out of 37 … [Read more...] about 1m NSF members stop contributions
The news this week is awash of social data transgressions. Stupendous examples of marketers-turned-diabolical-genius. While it's easy for uninformed policymakers to blame Facebook, culpability more aptly falls on rogue humans, surreptitiously harvesting data and ripping off Americans' psychological mojo for money. Cambridge Analytica seems to be a data mercenary, willing to sell out social channels and users. I'm sad. I've been using Facebook advertising since November 2007. It's by far the most advanced psychographic advertising channel on earth. We use that technology to accomplish tremendous good for businesses, causes and most any objective imaginable. So, throwing Facebook under the bus today makes about as much sense as smashing all printing presses after propaganda leaflets were dropped on troops to further deplete moral during a bloody war. Facebook is simply the messenger. Of course, they can always do better at policing how data is used. Yet, the platform is … [Read more...] about The Twisted Genius of Cambridge Analytica: How Bad Intent Ripped Off 50 Million Facebook Users

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Frankfurt, January 12, 2022 - Last year, the market capitalization of cryptocurrencies reached $3 trillion USD for the first time. At the beginning of the 2021, it was less than $800 billion USD. DeFi now has a total value locked (TVL) of $100 billion USD on Ethereum alone. But NFTs have been the most surprising, flanked by complementary areas like metaverse and GameFi. Who can claim to have foreseen these developments? Looking into the future is notoriously difficult. Nevertheless, we dare to make predictions for the year 2022. It will be exciting to see whether they come true. 1.
