Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Activision Blizzard stock (NASDAQ NDAQ : ATVI) reported its Q3 results in the second week of November, with revenue and earnings falling above the street expectations. Activision Blizzard’s revenue of $1.8 billion reflected a 14% y-o-y decline on a GAAP basis, while its net bookings of $1.8 billion were down 3% y-o-y. This can be attributed to a decline in monthly active users (MAUs) for both Activision and King segments. The gaming industry is witnessing a slowdown in user engagement after robust growth during the pandemic. For perspective, Activision Blizzard’s ATVI total average MAUs rose 15% to 401 million in 2021, compared to 349 million in 2019, before the pandemic. This metric has now fallen to 368 million as of September 2022. Looking at the bottom line, the company reported earnings of $0.68 on a per-share and adjusted basis, down 24% y-o-y but well above the consensus estimate of $0.50. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A common strategy many investors use around each quarter's 13F reporting period is to "follow the smart money." This strategy works most of the time, but this year, investors who have done so have watched their portfolios shrink rapidly and dramatically — along with most of the hedge fund industry. The most popular hedge fund stocks In its quarterly "Hedge Fund Trend Monitor," Goldman Sachs presented its list of the most popular long positions among fundamentally driven hedge funds. This basket has outperformed the S&P 500 in 58% of quarters since 2001, although at the cost of high volatility. However, the basket has underperformed the index dramatically since early 2021, lagging by more than 30 percentage points. Thus, in the current climate, this list could offer some stocks that investors might want to avoid, at least in the near term, until things turn around. - A + A (Dec 1): Equities in Asia extended gains after their best monthly rally in 24 years, as concerns eased over China's Covid-19 measures and the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) tightening. After capping a 15% gain November, the MSCI Asia Pacific Index jumped as much as 2.5% on Thursday, inching closer toward a bull market. Gauges in China, Japan, and Taiwan led gains — although Hong Kong's measures pared — as a top Chinese official said efforts to combat the virus are entering a new phase with the Omicron variant weakening and vaccination rates rising. Investors may look past China's near-term economic slump "as long as there are positive signs of China's reopening", David Chao, global market strategist for Asia Pacific ex-Japan at Invesco, wrote in a note. Traders will watch whether China's central bank will ease further in December, he added. Regional equities also got a boost from a weaker dollar, after Fed chair Jerome Powell said that the pace of rate … [Read more...] about Asian stocks extend best rally in 24 years on China, Fed boosts

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Bank of America’s stock (NYSE: BAC) has lost 20% YTD as compared to the 17% drop in the S&P500 index over the same period. Further, at its current price of $37 per share, the stock is trading 12% below its fair value of $42 – Trefis’ estimate for Bank of America’s valuation . The bank topped the consensus estimates of revenues and earnings in the third quarter, with net revenues increasing by 8% y-o-y to $24.5 billion. It was mainly driven by a 24% growth in the net interest income, which benefited from improvement in interest rates and higher outstanding loan balances. However, the growth was partially offset by an 8% drop in noninterest revenues. This suffered due to a decrease in investment banking income, asset management fees, and service charges, overpowering the growth in sales and trading revenues. On the expense front, the provisions for credit losses saw an unfavorable build-up from -$624 million to $898 … [Read more...] about Is Bank Of America Stock Fairly Priced?

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Choose your own adventure series Netflix We all recall the “Choose Your Own Adventure Books” when we were younger. Well now, you can do that with your television shows. Back in October, Netflix released some interactive content for their streaming service aimed at kids and now has released one for adults. However, there are mixed reviews on whether this is the best way to consume entertainment and if this will be the new way of the future for television programming. Netflix said “Interactive content is a fun new way to experience Netflix. In each interactive title, you can make choices for the characters, shaping the story as you go! Each choice leads to a different adventure, so you can watch again and again, and see a new story each time.” The C hoose Your Own Adventure book series, which was popular through the 1980s and 1990s, sold over 250 million copies. The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned seal (Photo credit: Rolex SA via Bloomberg) - A + A GENEVA (Dec 1): Rolex SA will begin issuing certificates of authenticity to authorised dealers selling its pre-owned watches, in a move that will give the Swiss company more oversight of its products and shake up the US$20 billion market for secondhand luxury timepieces. Swiss dealer Bucherer will be the first to begin selling pre-owned Rolex watches that are certified as authentic by the company at stores across Europe, Rolex said on its website. Other authorised Rolex dealers can begin participating in the programme in the spring of 2023. Rolex said it will only certify watches that are at least three-years old, in an effort to dissuade so-called flippers who sell new watches at prices above retail. The move to authenticate its own pre-owned watches marks a significant shift for Rolex, whose timepieces dominate secondhand sales at dealers and online. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While I’m still working my way through Wednesday, Netflix’s latest IP megahit, I wanted to circle back around to a series that recently caught my attention. That would be Warrior Nun, the Netflix original that just came back for season 2, which somehow has managed to have the highest audience scores for any season of any Netflix series I’ve ever seen, sitting at a 99% with thousands of reviews in . That just…doesn’t happen, so I sat down and watched both seasons over the last few days. Perhaps the show’s biggest challenge is what you think of when you hear the title “Warrior Nun,” which caused me, and likely many others, to skip it entirely. At best, it sounds like some sort of schlocky pulp project, at worst, forgettable YA tripe. When in fact, it is neither of those things. The goofy title is pulled from the source material, and while it describes the central heroine of the show, it may be somewhat of an obstacle to even … [Read more...] about Netflix’s Warrior Nun: Ignore The Title, Watch The Show
