Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin (Updated: 12:47 p.m. EST, March 5, 2020) Topline : Massachusetts Senator and presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren confirmed reports she would suspend her campaign for the Democratic nomination Thursday in the wake of a disappointing Super Tuesday after she failed to secure her own state of Massachusetts—and faced pressure from progressives , accusing her of splintering the vote. Warren did not place first or second in a single state on Super Tuesday and even came in third in Massachusetts, where she is a sitting senator. Even after her losses mounted, Warren seemed indefatigable: Late Tuesday she sent out a campaign email indicating she would stay in the race. “There are six more primaries just one week away, and we need your help to keep up the momentum,” the message said. Warren struggled to regain her early popularity as the race narrowed between Sanders and Biden, and Sanders supporters called on her … [Read more...] about Update: Elizabeth Warren Ends Presidential Bid

5 ways ChatGPT can help recruiters find the best candidates
Finding the right person for the job can be like finding a needle in a haystack, especially for hard-to-fill jobs that require specific technical skills. While technology, such as applicant tracking software, can assist by assessing for skills and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, it can’t solve one big issue: identifying and engaging a motivated person who really wants the role. That’s where AI chatbots like ChatGPT can help, says Satish Kumar, CEO of Glider AI , a skills-based recruiting platform. “Recruiters’ day-to-day job involves writing job descriptions, reaching out to candidates, understanding their résumé, qualifying them, and finding out how good a fit they are,” he says. “ChatGPT can actually play a role in each of these steps.” To be more effective in hiring and engage the right candidates, recruiters can leverage ChatGPT in these five ways. 1. Writing Job Descriptions Kumar suggests that recruiters use an AI tool for … [Read more...] about 5 ways ChatGPT can help recruiters find the best candidates
Senate Votes To Overturn Presidential War Authorizations Against Iraq
The Senate voted Wednesday 66-30 to repeal a pair of resolutions allowing the president to conduct military operations against Iraq, marking the first time in half a century Congress has rescinded the president’s war authorizations. Republican Sen. Todd Young of Indiana and Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia first introduced legislation overturning the Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) for the 1991 Gulf War and 2002 Iraq War in 2019. Although no ongoing military campaigns rely on the two authorizations, proponents of the repeal say it serves as a significant step in reasserting Congress’ authority and reining in the president’s war powers. “It’s been long past time for Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty in matters of where, when, and why we send American troops to sacrifice in defense of our country,” Russ Duerstine, executive director of Concerned Veterans for America, said in a statement. “Repealing these AUMFs also removes the possibility … [Read more...] about Senate Votes To Overturn Presidential War Authorizations Against Iraq
Turkish Elections: At The Crossroads Of Populism
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Turkey’s fate hangs on May 14, 2023. On that day, voters will choose between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s current populist regime or opt for a new path. These elections impact not just Turkey’s domestic sphere, but global populism as well. Under Kemal Kilicdaroglu’s leadership, the Turkish opposition presents a noteworthy and inventive approach to navigate populist dilemma. This strategy, which I frame as countering populism and polarization through pluralism, achieved success in the 2019 local elections and may triumph once more. President Erdogan, is a seasoned populist. He predates other populist leaders such as former U.S. President Donald Trump, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. They all boast anti-establishment views, emotional … [Read more...] about Turkish Elections: At The Crossroads Of Populism
Istanbul Elections: Failure Of Polarising Tactics In Turkey
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan casts his ballot at a polling station in Istanbul, Sunday, ... [+] June 23, 2019. Polls have opened in a repeat election in Turkey's largest city where Erdogan and his political allies could lose control of Istanbul's administration for the first time in 25 years. (AP Photo/Emrah Gurel) For President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, losing control of Istanbul, Turkey's economic and political powerhouse, at the local elections yesterday is a big blow, possibly the most stinging defeat of his political career. If the AK Party hadn't pushed for the cancellation of the March election, it would have been easier to recover from a narrow defeat in Istanbul and several other major cities, including Ankara and Adana. Now, however, after a defeat of a far more significant margin, the ruling party is in a much weaker position. Istanbul's importance The elections have been viewed widely as … [Read more...] about Istanbul Elections: Failure Of Polarising Tactics In Turkey
Elizabeth Warren Running Again To Keep Tabs On Banks
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Elizabeth Warren's announcement to run for reelection comes on the heels of multiple high-profile bank collapses , and that’s not a coincidence. The Democratic senator from Massachusetts has spoken about holding big banks more accountable for years, and as the issue has moved front and center in the last couple of weeks, so has Warren. Regular cable media appearances and op-eds have been building momentum, making the timing right for a major announcement. Warren first won election in 2012, defeating incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown. In 2018, she won reelection to a second term by a large margin before making an unsuccessful bid for president in 2020. Currently, it's unclear who might challenge Warren for her seat, but even uncontested, her announcement has already drawn national attention. The video was produced by left-leaning political consulting firm Blue State, which rose to prominence after … [Read more...] about Elizabeth Warren Running Again To Keep Tabs On Banks
Trump grand jury poised to take pre-planned break from case
By MICHAEL R. SISAK (Associated Press) NEW YORK (AP) — The Manhattan grand jury investigating hush money paid on Donald Trump’s behalf is scheduled to consider other matters next week before taking a previously scheduled two-week hiatus, a person familiar with the matter said Wednesday. That means a vote on whether or not to indict the former president likely wouldn’t come until late April at the earliest. The break, which was scheduled in advance when the panel was convened in January, coincides with Passover, Easter and spring break for the New York City public school system. The person who confirmed the grand jury’s schedule was not authorized to speak publicly about secretive grand jury proceedings and did so on condition of anonymity. A message left with the district attorney’s office was not immediately returned. In a statement released through a lawyer, Trump said: “I HAVE GAINED SO MUCH RESPECT FOR THIS GRAND JURY.” The grand jury has been meeting regularly Monday … [Read more...] about Trump grand jury poised to take pre-planned break from case
Why It’s Hard, But Necessary, To Be Human At Work
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Last fall, the top 250 executives of a major, global telecommunications company gathered together for a three-day leadership summit. The summit kicked off with a strong call to action by the CEO. Even with the company’s growth, strong performance, and market dominance, the CEO exhorted the leaders gathered in front of him to work harder and to do even better. Seventy-two hours later, the CEO took the stage again, but this time he delivered a different message. The company would continue to drive performance and deliver results, he shared, but care would be at the core of the company’s strategy. “Performance” and “care” would be intertwined – two vital and necessary elements for the company’s long-term health and viability. Though the speed was remarkable, this kind of pivot was not unique to this CEO. A year ago, we published our research into a human-centered model of leadership in a book called Compassionate Leadership: … [Read more...] about Why It’s Hard, But Necessary, To Be Human At Work
It’s time we talk honestly about grief in the workplace
I’ve been living with grief most of my life. I lost my mother to a long battle with multiple sclerosis in my early 20s. I lost my father to cancer in my early 30s. I lost my brother , the last remaining member of my immediate family, to addiction in my late 30s. My experience isn’t unique. We’ve all lost loved ones. We all carry the scars of grief, heartbreak, and loss. And yet, despite the fact that death is a part of life, we rarely discuss it candidly. That lack of openness creates a stigma that isolates those grieving in their greatest time of need. This is especially true when it comes to work—a place where we spend so much of our lives. In these settings, we’re expected to compartmentalize our feelings and carry on. As more companies embrace mental health as a fourth pillar of employee benefits, it’s time they factor in grief in all its forms into their programs. Grief-specific training for managers. Rethinking bereavement policies. Support systems for … [Read more...] about It’s time we talk honestly about grief in the workplace
