More than 90% of the deaths have occurred in rapidly developing low- and middle-income countries, according to research published today in The Lancet Planetary Health. As population and wealth in poorer countries have increased over the last two decades, so have the number of power plants, goods manufacturers and cars on the road. Datuk Tee Siew Kiong - A + A JOHOR BAHRU (May 17): Pontian MCA division chief Datuk Tee Siew Kiong has been suspended from the party for five years effective last Friday (May 13). Tee, 58, who is also former Pulai Sebatang assemblyman, said he received a copy of the suspension letter through WhatsApp from a party staff on Saturday. "I also think this decision does not make sense because other people who have committed offences before are only suspended for half a year or three years," the former Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman told reporters here on Tuesday (May 17). The latest student loan debt statistics for 2022 show that there are 45 million borrowers who collectively owe approximately $1.7 trillion in student loan debt. Student loan debt is now the second-highest consumer debt category — second only to mortgage debt and higher than debt for both credit cards and auto loans. The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted student loans. In March 2020, Congress responded with historic student loan relief, including pausing federal student loan payments. Both President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden extended the student loan payment pause multiple times. Biden paused federal student loan payments through August 31, 2022. BEIJING (Bloomberg): Harrow, the 450-year-old British boarding school that produced seven prime British ministers including Winston Churchill, is dropping its British name in China as the country tightens controls on international schools. Harrow Beijing will change the name of its bilingual school to Lide after the Chinese government last year banned schools with Chinese students from using foreign names and words like "global” or "international” in their titles. "This is not irregular and does not reflect a specific change in the school’s policy,” said Jennifer Cooper, Head of Brand for Harrow in the UK, adding that the name change applied to only one part of Harrow Beijing. The story came to light when a popular Facebook page, Yak Dang Chat Hai Return Part 3, published the teenager's story, sparking a public outcry. The last straw is said to have been the advice of a student counsellor who told her to quit studying at Satri Phatthalung School due to her financial problems, according to the friend. The girl texted several of her friends before hanging herself at midnight last Friday at her home, saying she wanted her death to send a message to the school and to her family that things need to change.
