Will Texas and its big cities be ready for the 2020 Census? Some think a statewide effort is needed
But Texas GOP chairman James Dickey said he doesn’t believe Texas should play an active role in influencing census outcomes because it is constitutionally a responsibility designated for the federal government. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to expend taxpayer resources in a long shot effort to influence the final census count in some significant way,” Dickey said.Dickey added that he trusts that Census Bureau officials are keeping a close eye on issues that might keep people from filling out the census questionnaire.“We of course encourage everyone to participate openly and willingly in the census so we have the best information,” Dickey said.Blanco said Texas needs to be more proactive like California. Texas butterfly sanctuary files emergency restraining order to stop Trump’s border wall construction
The National Butterfly Center has filed for a restraining order to keep federal agents and contractors — who plan to build a border wall through the popular nature preserve — off its property. The butterfly center, located in the small Texas town of Mission in the Rio Grande Valley, has tried for more than a year to stop the border barrier, which Congress approved last March. But the current debate over the Trump administration's demands for billions more dollars in border wall funding has focused national attention on the butterfly preserve's plight.Executive Director Marianna Treviño-Wright said the center's attorneys filed for a restraining order Monday evening in U.S. District Court in Washington because construction equipment and contractors have driven across the center's property even though the federal government has yet to acquire the land. The motion, which was first reported by the Texas Observer, accuses the federal … [Read more...] about Texas butterfly sanctuary files emergency restraining order to stop Trump’s border wall construction
