Examining the Health of the Stock Market with Dr. Ed Yardeni
U.S. stocks found their footing last week, finishing up a July to remember. The Dow popped nearly 3% while the S&P added 4.3% last week and the Nasdaq Composite rose 4.7% for the month. For the month, the S&P 500 rallied 9.1% while the Nasdaq popped in a 12.3% gain, recording one of the strongest months in the index's history. If that was a bear trap , it wasn't very convincing, as nine out of the 11 sectors in the S&P 500 all posted gains. If you want to get technical about it, the major indexes all found support for the time being, and we're starting to see some true breadth thrusts playing out across the stock market. A breadth thrust, my friends, is not a fencing move. It's a technical indicator that flashes when a large percentage of stocks make new short-term highs, driving their moving averages higher, with more of those stocks advancing rather than declining. If we look back into the history of the S&P 500, every time we've seen a breath thrust this … [Read more...] about Examining the Health of the Stock Market with Dr. Ed Yardeni
Micron Proving Its NAND Leadership By Shipping World’s First 232-Layer Device
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This week, Micron announced that it began production of its 232-Layer NAND. Musk Says Federal Government Drug Tested Him After Smoking Blunt With Joe Rogan
Elon Musk said the federal government drug tested him back in 2018 after he smoked a blunt with Joe Rogan during a podcast episode. The 2018 appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” led the federal government to drug test Musk, the billionaire said Thursday while on the Canadian-American “Full Send” podcast with the NELK Boys. “Remember when you smoked weed on Joe Rogan, did you get like a lot of backlash for that?” host Kyle Forgeard asked. “I did get a lot of backlash cause it’s like still federally illegal,” Musk said. “It was pretty nutty actually. I had to – well, because, you know, uh, so I had to have like random drug tests and stuff after that to prove that I’m not like a drug addict.” “Really?” Forgeard asked. “By who though? Who gives you the random drug tests?” co-host Aaron Steinberg asked. WATCH: “The federal government,” Musk said. “Like, because SpaceX has a federal government contract, so. And it’s still illegal federally. So like – like … [Read more...] about Musk Says Federal Government Drug Tested Him After Smoking Blunt With Joe Rogan

In “Rogue One,” Cassian mentions he has been fighting in the galaxy’s ongoing revolution since he was 6 years old. “At the end of the film he … [Read more...] about ‘Star Wars’ series ‘Andor’ explores dark days in the galaxy’s revolution
Trouble Ahead? Inflation And The Coming Recession
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Martin A. Sullivan, Tax Analysts’ chief economist, revisits the United States’ economic path to inflation and discusses mitigation efforts for a possible recession. This transcript has been edited for length and clarity. David D. Stewart: Welcome to the podcast. I'm David Stewart, editor in chief of Tax Notes Today International . This week: racing toward recession? In March, we looked at how inflation was affecting the U.S. economy as the country started to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the economy has been under even more scrutiny as inflation continues at its highest level in decades. At the same time, recession fears are beginning to mount. Amid all this, the Federal Reserve has been raising interest rates and attempting to walk the narrow path between reducing inflation and not pushing the economy into recession. So, can we tamp down on inflation while also avoiding a … [Read more...] about Trouble Ahead? Inflation And The Coming Recession
Green Banks Get the Green Light Under the Inflation Reduction Act
On this week's show, it's not Build Back Better, but the newly-introduced Inflation Reduction Act bill of 2022 has some surprisingly positive developments for clean energy, climate technology, and green banking. We break down what's in the proposed bill and what the future of green banking may look like—if passed—with Reed Hundt, the co-founder, chairman and CEO of the Coalition for Green Capital. The climate and tech spending deal announced last week by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Joe Manchin, now known as the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, includes up to $370 billion in spending to help fight climate change. It would also impose tens of billions of dollars in fees on the fossil fuel industry in order to pay for some of that spending. The legislation, which may be voted on by the U.S. Senate as soon as this week, would reinstate and increase a long-lapsed tax on crude oil and imported petroleum products to 16.4 cents per barrel. That fee would be paid by … [Read more...] about Green Banks Get the Green Light Under the Inflation Reduction Act
How Farfetch is predicting the future of fashion in Web3
advertisement advertisement If Web1 was about “read” and Web2 was about “read and write,” then Web3 is about “read, write, and own,” says Farfetch Founder and CEO José Neves. On this week’s Most Innovative Companies podcast, Neves explains what Web3 is and what it’s capable of through the lens of fashion and culture, drawing from his experience founding and growing Farfetch, the online luxury fashion retail platform. Fashion, Neves says, is a deeply human endeavor and a core part of who we are as individuals. Fashion allows us to apply different “masks” based on how we feel, who we want to be, or what we want to portray on any given day. “It’s your second persona that is with you every single day and therefore technology should be at the service of that, not replacing that,” he says. “[At Farfetch] we always think of technology as enhancing the human interaction between curators, creators, and levels of fashion, as opposed to replacing that human … [Read more...] about How Farfetch is predicting the future of fashion in Web3
