The rains that have blanketed Southern California in recent weeks have caused flooding, mudslides, downed trees, backyard erosion and scores of traffic accidents. And with more rain on the way, roofing companies are scrambling to keep up with a backlog of work orders as more and more homeowners grapple with leaks. “It’s overwhelming,” said Robert Lansford, owner of Lansford Roofing Co. Inc. in Pasadena. “Our calls have tripled. Last year we had what … five inches of rain? Now we’re dealing with a lot more.” Homeowners who put off needed roof repairs are paying the price as they deal with leaks, puddles in their living rooms and water working its way into their walls. And the longer they wait, the worse it gets. “Many of these people should have dealt with these issues five years ago but didn’t,” he said. “I understand that you might want to wait because it’s not cheap. But at some point, you’ve got to get it done.” Lansford Roofing typically gets 15 to 20 calls a week for roof repairs, but the rains have boosted that to 60 to 100 calls a week.
