By Staff report | | PUBLISHED: January 14, 2019 at 8:42 am | UPDATED: January 14, 2019 at 8:42 am Non-teacher employees will join striking Los Angeles Unified School District teachers on the picket lines at ten schools today in a show of support of the walkout, according to a union announcement. The sympathy strike includes teacher assistants, special-ed assistants, food-service workers and other members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99. Blanca Gallegos of SEIU said the sympathy walkouts would last at least one day, but that workers would decide at each site whether to extend the mini-strikes beyond Monday. SEIU workers are expected to show up for work as usual at other campuses around the district. The schools where the sympathy walkouts will be staged, according to the union’s statement: Carson High School, 22328 S. Main St. Carson; Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools – 701 S. Catalina St., LA; Haskell STEAM Magnet Elementary School – 15850 Tulsa St., Granada Hills; Hart Street Elementary School – 21040 Hart St., Canoga Park; Herrick Avenue Elementary School – 13350 Herrick Ave., Sylmar; Hadden Avenue Early Education Center – 10085 Haddon Ave., Pacoima; Liggett Street Elementary School, 9373 Moonbeam Ave., Panorama City; Sylmar High School, 13050 Borden Ave., Sylmar; 93rd St. Elementary School, 330 E. 93rd St., Los Angeles; And 99th St. Elementary School, 9900 Wadsworth Ave., LA. SEIU Local 99 represents about 35,000 education workers in K-12 schools administrative offices and community colleges in Southern California.
