Jeff Seidel Detroit Free Press Published 4:01 PM EST Nov 10, 2018 EAST LANSING — It was like watching bad, slapstick comedy. Somebody slips on a banana peel. Gets up and falls face first in mud. Then, gets up and fumbles in the end zone. Then, botches a punt. Then, botches an option. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for the Spartans in the second half in a 26-6 loss against No. 8 Ohio State at Spartan Stadium. Everything was spinning out of control and went right down the drain. The Spartans came into this game dreaming about a Rose Bowl and hoping for New Years’ Six bowl. But all of that disappeared on Saturday, just a few minutes after MSU coach Mark Dantonio called for an intentional safety. Ohio State was holding a 7-6 lead. The Spartans took a safety, snapping the ball out of the end zone. Dantonio was trying to flip the field and MSU was down to its third or fourth-string punter. But the move was questionable, to say the least. At that point, MSU’s defense was playing outstanding. Then, it backfired horribly when Cole Hahn kicked the ball out of bounds and Ohio State took over on the 50. To make it worse, after MSU’s defense held, after another great Ohio State punt, the Spartans were back in the same spot. But three points behind. Then, it spun out of control.
