Mark Hicks The Detroit News Published 10:51 PM EST Nov 13, 2018 Part of eastbound Interstate 94 remained closed late Tuesday near 23 Mi in Chesterfield Township as police investigated a six-vehicle crash that left one person dead. Witnesses told investigators that as rush-hour traffic slowed to merge onto the exit ramp near the 23 Mile exit at about 5:50 p.m., a driver of a semitrailer struck them from behind, township police said in a statement. “Several vehicles were engulfed in flames as a result of the collision,” the release read. One motorist was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other drivers, including the semitrailer driver, identified as a 38-year-old Caseville man, suffered non-life threatening injuries, officials said. Police were working Tuesday night to determine the cause of the crash. The eastbound lanes were expected to remain closed at 21 Mile for several hours more.
