MANILA, Philippines—University of Perpetual Help seeks to prove that its solid start is no fluke when it clashes with Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament on Thursday at EAC Gym in Taft, Manila. Game time is at 4 p.m. Edgar Charcos, a transferee from University of the East, has been solid for the Altas in their first two games. He has normed 20.5 points in their first two contests – a 65-67 loss to San Beda, then a 78-75 win over Letran. Charcos shone brightest in EAC’s win over Letran, wherein he scored a career-best 27 points. “He’s a big reason why we’re playing like this. I’m confident he could sustain it,” said Perpetual Help coach Frankie Lim of Charcos, who took over the point guard duties for the Altas after veteran Keith Pido sustained a foot injury in the offseason. While Charcos’ squad has impressed, the EAC Generals have disappointed so far in the tournament as they dropped their first two games. The Generals feature the top scorer in the league, Cameroonian Hamadou Laminou, but his dominance has yet to translate to victories for his team. “If you’ve noticed, we’ve always finished badly,” said EAC coach Ariel Sison. “Now, if we could somehow find a way to finish strong, we’ll have a chance.” For more sports coverage, visit the ABS-CBN Sports website.
