A CO Cavan man is to stand trial over the death of a pensioner in a road crash in Tyrone last year. Brian Lynch (21) from Cloggagh, Ballyjamesduff, appeared at Dungannon Crown Court today, accused of causing the death of Margaret McLaughlin by driving dangerously at Great Northern Link in Strabane on April 24 2017. Mrs McLaughlin (69), was a front seat passenger in a car, which was struck by a lorry being driven by Lynch. She died in hospital from injuries sustained in the collision. Lynch pleaded not guilty to the charge. However he accepted two additional charges of causing the death of the Strabane woman while an unlicensed and uninsured driver. Defence counsel advised the charge which is to proceed to trial is disputed on the grounds of the manner of his client’s driving at the time. His Honour Judge Neil Rafferty QC remanded Lynch on continuing bail, which includes a £2000 surety, to return to court on July 4, when a trial date is expected to be fixed.
